The word Yahrtzeit has a special significance to Jews all over the world. Yahrtzeit, a Yiddish word, is the descriptive name our Rabbis attach to remembrance.

Losing a loved one is probably one of life’s most difficult trials. While the loved one lives on in our own personal memories, some of us seek ways to honor this person with a tangible memorial. Kehillat Israel has a tradition of offering Yahrzeit name plaques as a “living memorial” that perpetuates the memory of a loved one forever. It serves as a powerful and loving reminder of those we have cherished.

Individual Yahrtzeit name plaques are available for $750. Please allow sixty days for installation of your memorial plaque (s) on our Memorial Wall in the Sanctuary.

Every year, on the Yahrtzeit of the departed and on other appropriate occasions, a Memorial prayer will be said. The name will also be inscribed in our “Book of Remembrance” each Yom Kippur Service.

Each plaque allows for two lines of text, up to 26 characters each (including spaces and punctuation), in addition to date of death. Please follow the samples when planning your plaque.

For further information about a Yahrtzeit name plaque, please contact Masha Fleissig, Membership Assistant, at mfleissig@ourki.org or 310.459.2328.
