Civil Discourse Week with Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish

April, 2013 in partnership with UCLA, LMU & CLUE
Following the theme of Rabbi Reuben’s Rosh Hashana sermon: “Can’t everyone just get along”, in partnership with UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, and CLUE (Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice), JLI is proud to offer a week of dialogue and events with Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish. Dr. Abuelaish is a Palestinian medical doctor who has dedicated his life to peace in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. On January 16, 2009, Israeli shells mistakenly hit his home in the Gaza Strip, killing three of his daughters and a niece. Abuelaish’s response to the loss of his children made news and won him humanitarian awards around the world. Instead of seeking revenge or sinking into hatred, Dr. Abuelaish is calling for the people of the Middle East to start talking to each other. His deepest hope is that his daughters will be the last sacrifice on the road to peace between Palestinians and Israelis.
